Kronos is a system that requires Java. Occasionally you may run into error messages regarding the Java in your system. This guide will show you the next steps you should take if you receive an error message stating the 'Java plug-in is not installed'

Enable Java Plugin Firefox

  1. Open the Tools option and click on Add-Ons. Find Plugins in the Add-ons manager window. For Windows click on Java (TM) Platform plugin and for Mac OS Select Java Applet Plug-in. You would find an Enable radio button if on the older version of Firefox.
  2. Download Java Plugin Firefox Windows Click Java (TM) Platform plugin (Windows) or Java Applet Plug-in (Mac OS X) to select it; Check that the option selected is Ask to Activate or Always Activate or on older Firefox versions, click on the Enable button (if the button says Disable, Java is already enabled) Safari.

Note: the Java plug-in is entirely disabled within Google Chrome, so if you are trying to use Chrome and getting an error, the first step would be to switch to Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari.

  1. Open the Firefox browser or restart it, if it is already running
  2. From the Firefox menu, select Tools, then click the Add-ons option
  3. In the Add-ons Manager window, select Plugins
  4. Click Java (TM) Platform plugin (Windows) or Java Applet Plug-in (Mac OS X) to select it
  5. Check that the option selected is Ask to Activate or Always Activate or on older Firefox versions, click on the Enable button (if the button says Disable, Java is already enabled)
Install

If you have not yet installed Apple's Java OS X 2012-006 update, then you are still using a version of Apple Java 6 that includes the plug-in and the Java Preferences application. See Notes for Users of macOS That Include the Apple Java 6 Plug-in.

  1. When Firefox is open, click on the Firefox tab in to top left of your screen.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Click Content.
  4. In the Content options, ensure that Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are checked.
  1. Click on the Safari tab in the upper left of your screen, and select Preferences.
  2. Choose the Security option.
  3. Select Allow Plug-ins, then click on Manage Website Settings.
  4. Click on the Java item, select an option (Ask, Allow or Allow Always) from the pulldown list When visiting other websites.
  5. Click Done, then close the Safari Preferences window.

  1. Click Tools(Gear symbol in the upper right hand corner of the browser) and then click Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab, and select the Custom Level button.
  3. Scroll down to Scripting of Java applets.
  4. Make sure the Enable radio button is checked.
  5. Click OK to save your preference.
